A swinger friend of mine put me on to this book. He knows there is no chance I will ever become a lifestyle swinger like him but said it made very interesting reading. And that it did. The title certainly didnt give much away but the authors teach us that the term slut isnt one of degradation towards females, much as we know it to be in modern day society. They reclaim the dictionary definition of the word and explain thats is actually used across all genders to define a person who views sex and pleasure in an ethical and open way. The gist of the book is viewing polyamory - opposed to monogamy - as a lifestyle choice. The authors dont try to ram their opinions down our throats, they simply suggest we open our minds to why monogamous relationships fail so frequently and the benefits of polyamory instead. I will never be as open as the writers suggest however it has made me view things in a very different light and learn that I really cant expect my partner to be 100% perfect or to check every one of my boxes. Thats why we have girl friends too, in a non sexual way I mean. Most guys cant offer us that female companionship to which we turn alot of the time. Sometimes guys get jealous of this situation and this book teaches us that we need to view things in a an open and accepting way as we all have needs that sometimes the other person just cant meet. It doesnt mean we love them any less but we may chose to get that box check elsewhere. I will never live the full on open lifestyle suggested in the book. Maybe Im a coward or maybe Im just a realist, but from reading The Ethical Slut Ive certainly changed my view on alot of things and feel its most definitely benefitted my monogamous life. Certainly an interesting read but one you need a fairly open mind for.
